Description

Primary Purpose

The Intelligence Analyst provides support to SJSO Criminal Investigations Division units and other SJSO divisions during major case investigations, planned events, civil unrest, and natural disasters. The Intelligence Analyst performs complex assignments requiring professional knowledge and skills in conducting research and analysis to support criminal investigations and other law enforcement responsibilities.

Education and Qualification Requirements

Mandatory Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalency
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field or; Combination of education and experience (evaluated on a case by case basis) or; Intelligence analyst related certification and experience or; Current SJSO employees will be considered and may be exempt from educational and experience requirements   

Preferred Requirements

  • Experience in research, analyzing and evaluating intelligence information for criminal investigations
  • Experience with databases and software related to law enforcement intelligence gathering  
  • FDLE analyst certification (or equivalent certification)  

Duties

  • Analyzes, evaluates, and correlates police reports and intelligence information from multiple sources
  • Coordinates with case agents on criminal investigations and ongoing operations
  • Participates in multi-agency task force investigations, work groups, or committees to provide analytical assistance to meet the objectives of SJSO and other law enforcement agencies
  • Utilizes online social media platforms to obtain information and intelligence relevant to criminal investigations and matters of public safety
  • Uses open source and law enforcement intelligence databases and software to locate people, information, and identify potential threats and/or criminal activity
  • Provides statistical and established benchmarks regarding crime statistics to agency
  • Creates and distributes intelligence bulletins and reports as applicable
  • Updates law enforcement and dispatch personnel through the use of radio and computerized aided dispatch communications during Real Time Intelligence Center (RTIC) operations
  • Deploys to crime scenes, field offices, mobile command centers as needed to provide immediate support
  • Assists other federal, state, and local agencies during emergency management incidents including natural disasters, mass casualty incidents, and high profile planned events
  • Other duties may be required and assigned

  • Process/compile/disseminate record/public record information as directed by approving authority in accordance with lawful requirements
  • Maintain continuity and operational efficiency by accurate and timely dissemination of information to Staff and co-workers
  • Adhere to leave, overtime and attendance policies/procedures (i.e. arrive promptly, regular attendance at work, notification to supervisor regarding absence from work due to illness or untimely incidents, etc.)

Grade Classification

Physical Environment

  • Work is primarily in an office environment, with occasional field deployment  
  • Hours may vary and employees are subject to rotating shifts
  • Overtime may be necessary to include nights, holidays, and weekends
  • On call rotation is required
